Tournament Play

CWSC highly recommends Summer Tournament play. In one weekend a team can play anywhere from 3 to 6 games. A player can play as many games in one weekend as in half the fall season. The experience can be very rewarding. It can also be very humbling. Playing one tournament at U9, increasing to two at U10 and three at U11 is an excellent way to prepare your players for Select play at U12. For some of your players this will be their only chance to play in summer tournaments. Look on the www.wsysa.com and www.oregonyouthsoccer.org websites for more tournaments.

U6-U8 CWSC does not recommend tournament play for these age groups. For those that want to, last year Orchards hosted the Tide American Jamboree in late August. The fee was low and the location close. Teams from these age groups are eligible to enter this jamboree.

U9 CWSC recommends that U9 teams look at playing one of the short sided tournaments held in Clark County. These are single day, low cost, jamboree style tournaments. All players should have fun at these tournaments regardless of their skill level.

Battle Ground Harvest Days 5v5 (see Battle Ground website for details).
Orchards Dairy Farmer's 6v6 (see Orchards website for details).
Orchards Tide American Jamboree (see Orchards website for details).

U10 CWSC recommends the same tournaments as those listed for U9. Please limit your roster to those players on your current or past fall team (ie: do not stack your team).

For those coaches and teams interested in a higher level of play there is a series of tournaments in the Portland area that are very good. These tournaments require state travel papers approved by WSYSA. These papers need to be to WSYSA at least 30 days prior to the tournament. For U10 teams these have been championship format tournaments with teams playing 8v8 (same as you will play in the fall).

Addidas Beaverton Cup - July
Addidas Cascade Cup (Clackamas) - July
Chinook Cup (Tigard/Tualatin) - August

Typically these tournaments have Gold and Silver divisions. If you want to play in the Gold Division be prepared to meet some outstanding teams. Summer season is open roster season. CWSC encourages coaches to combine teams for these tournaments at this age group. It can help break down some of the team cliques and rivalries that tend to build during the fall season.

U11 The tournaments listed for U9 teams are great for any team especially those looking for a fun one-day event. Please keep to your rec. team roster as much as possible.

The tournaments listed for U10 teams are good for more competitive or combined teams.

CWSC recommends that U11 teams look take a good look at fielding combined teams in our own C-W Revolution tournament. You can't beat the location. This will be a challenge. You will play most of the U12 Select teams from Clark County and any U11 Select Teams that have formed. The Vancouver Midsummer Classic will field the local U11 Premier teams and some of the better U11 Rec. teams enhanced by players from other teams. FC Vancouver's Clash at the Border is targeting high level Select and Premier Teams.

CW Revolution Tourn. $375 per team - July 18th thru 20th

Pumas Clash at the Border - June 27th thru 29th

U12 & up For Rec. Teams look at the small-sided tournaments, CW Revolution and Orchard's Midsummer Classic.

For Select Teams, the sky is the limit.
